Before beginning sessions with a child/ adolescent

Before beginning sessions with a child/ adolescent, an initial consultation with parents or guardians is required. This meeting is an essential step in understanding the child’s overall environment and ensuring that support is tailored effectively to their needs.

Understanding the child’s overall environment

During the consultation, we gather important background information about the child/adolescent, including their:

  • home life
  • family dynamics
  • social interactions
  • school experience

This holistic understanding helps identify any factors that may be influencing the child’s development, behaviour, or emotional wellbeing.

Opportunity for parents to share concerns, goals, and expectations

The parental consultation also provides an opportunity for parents to share concerns, goals, and expectations, as well as to ask questions about the process.

In addition, parents can learn practical ways to support their child at home, helping to reinforce progress made during sessions and promote positive outcomes in everyday life.

If a joint meeting with both parents or guardians is not possible

If a joint meeting with both parents or guardians is not possible, separate consultations can be arranged with each parent to ensure that all perspectives are heard and considered.

Establishing open communication from the outset

Establishing open communication from the outset allows for a collaborative approach, ensuring that both the child and their family feel supported throughout the process.

This session is a key foundation for creating a safe, informed, and effective therapeutic experience for a child/adolescent.

Parental consultation – €130
